Big Spectrum Data: The New Resource for Cognitive Wireless Networking
نویسندگان
چکیده
The era of Big Data is here now, which has brought both unprecedented opportunities and critical challenges. In this article, from a perspective of cognitive wireless networking, we start with a definition of Big Spectrum Data by analyzing its characteristics in terms of six V’s, i.e., volume, variety, velocity, veracity, viability, and value. We then present a high-level tutorial on research frontiers in Big Spectrum Data analytics to guide the development of practical algorithms. We also highlight Big Spectrum Data as the new resource for cognitive wireless networking by presenting the emerging use cases. We now live in an era of data deluge. We live in a world that has more than a billion transistors per human; a world with more than 4 billion mobile phone subscribers and about 30 billion radio frequency identification tags produced globally within the last two years [1]. All these sensors generate data. Sadly, much of this data is simply thrown away, because of the lack of efficient mechanisms to derive value from it. This fact motivates the worldwide increasing interests in Big Data. Although there are still debates on whether Big Data is a big opportunity or a big bubble, Big Data is here now and is going to transform how we gain insights and how we make decisions in the future [2]. To leverage the Big Data opportunities and challenges, many governments, organizations and academic institutions come forward to take initiates. Wireless Distributed Network: For Flexible Networking and Radio Resource Management
This paper proposes a concept for a new technical field called wireless distributed network (WDN) as a strategic technical field to enable flexible networking and radio resource management (RRM) to cope with dynamic variation of spatially distributed traffic demands. As the core technical subject areas for the WDN, this paper identifies distributed networking for flexible network creation, coop...

Cognitive radio (CR) paradigm was introduced, towards addressing challenges, related with radio spectrum scarcity and increased needs for wireless networking services provision. In this direction, CR networks exploit novel networking architectures, as well as dynamic radio spectrum access techniques and methods, alleviating problems, regarding limited wireless networking resources and their ine...
متن کاملReview paper on Cognitive Radio Networking and Communications
Cognitive radio (CR) is the enabling technology for supporting dynamic spectrum access: the policy that addresses the spectrum scarcity problem that is encountered in many countries. The spectrum sensing problem has gained new aspects with cognitive radio networks. Radio spectrum is the most valuable resource in wireless communication. The cognitive radio and cognitive based networking are tran...

Cognitive wireless sensor network (CWSN) is a new paradigm, integrating cognitive features in traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) to mitigate important problems such as spectrum occupancy. Security in cognitive wireless sensor networks is an important problem since these kinds of networks manage critical applications and data. The specific constraints of WSN make the problem even more c...
متن کاملThe Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks
With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...
